A man named Luke Mitchell was charged with a murder of his teenage girlfriend, named Jodi Jones who was just 14.
Luke Mitchell was 15 and was arrested for the crime. 10 months after the arrest, Mitchell was declared to be in prison till the end of his life by Scottish court.
But Terry Mullins secretary of the British Polygraph Association adopted the polygraph test to find out whether Mitchell was lying or not. Terry found that Mitchell was telling the truth.
Polygraph test-It is a test which is used to find lie by taking into consideration various physiological indices.
Mitchell was asked three questions “Were you there when Jodi was attempted to murder?” “Did you kill Jodi on 30th June 2003?” “Do you know where Jodi’s dead body was found?”
Mitchell answered three questions in a single word “No”. And Terry found that Mitchell had not committed a murder. The interview took two and half hours and in the meanwhile Terry asked some comparison questions which helped him to identify the truth of Mitchell.
A 17 minute video is available on youtube which gained more than 13000 views. Mitchell was the first prisoner who posted a video of a polygraph test in order to prove his innocence. Mitchell hoped that releasing a video on youtube will help him to show others that he had not committed a crime. This film was posted on Saturday and this was the first occasion a prisoner giving a polygraph test in a jail.
Mitchell’s mother was happy to see her son proving his truth in front of everyone. His mother supported his son’s story of getting through the lie-detector test and saying in response that her son was at home when the incident took place.
Currently the polygraph test was not allowed in the Scottish court but was included in case of Mitchell; it was included in the submission of commission.
In such a way, the convicted man Mitchell who had not committed the crime was free after 10 years of jail only with the help of polygraph test.
Just like people are using the common mobile
accessories such as, Bluetooth headsets, mobile speaker,
Keyboards etc, similarly there are many departments who are
making the use of LVA technology for investigation purposes. The man Mitchell who was innocent still spend his 10 years in jail just because that he was not able to prove his truth at that time. The court must analyze and investigate the complete case before putting the criminals in jail, because sometimes it becomes difficult for the innocent persons to prove their innocence, as happened in case of Mitchell.
